Mining and Geoscience Professionals Professional Development Association (MAYEM)

The Mining and Geoscience Professionals Professional Development Association (MAYEM) was established in Ankara on September 3, 2021, under the name "Mining Engineers Professional Development Association." In line with the expanded vision, the association's name was updated to MAYEM by the General Assembly decision held in January 2025, and its scope now includes professionals in geology, geophysics, and geosciences. The association's fundamental approach is to strengthen interdisciplinary solidarity within the sector under an institutional umbrella.

As a non-profit, non-governmental organization, MAYEM aims to support the professional development of all professionals working in the mining and geosciences fields. To this end, we aim to increase professional competence by organizing technical training, workshops, certification processes, and sectoral information events. We also contribute to ensuring that mining activities in our country comply with international reporting standards.

The association organizes symposiums, panels, and technical trips that bring together academic, public, and private stakeholders in the sector and facilitate knowledge sharing. These initiatives bring topics such as post-mining activities, environmental sustainability, socio-economic transformation, waste management, industrial heritage protection, and rehabilitation processes to a scientifically based platform for discussion.

The International Post-Mining Activities Symposium (IPMS), one of MAYEM's most prominent events, was successfully held in Zonguldak in 2024, hosting comprehensive sessions with the participation of numerous domestic and international stakeholders. This event aims to bring the post-mining approach in Türkiye to the international level.

The association's activities include the bimonthly periodical "Mining and After." This journal promotes a culture of knowledge sharing by providing up-to-date content on industrial heritage, post-mining land use, academic developments, environmental approaches, and industry trends.

MAYEM's mission is to foster professional solidarity, encourage knowledge creation, promote sustainable mining, and strengthen Türkiye's international visibility in the mining-geology field. To this end, it continues to develop in collaboration with industry professionals, students, academics, and institutional representatives.
